REDLab at the 25th Digital Landscape Architecture Conference
The 25th Digital Landscape Architecture (DLA) Conference, held from June 5-7, 2024 at TU Wien in Vienna, showcased cutting-edge research in landscape architecture and urban design.
Among the presenters was REDLab graduate Adolfo Martinez's presentation on his paper, “Determining the Effect of Alleyway Design on Perceived Safety Through Virtual Reality.” Martinez's study, published in the Journal of Digital Landscape, demonstrated how virtual reality (VR) can evaluate the impact of design interventions on pedestrians' safety perceptions. His research revealed that elements like lighting and planting significantly enhanced feelings of safety in urban alleyways.
Additionally, two other papers from REDLab team members were published in the 2024 edition of the Journal of Digital Landscape Architecture including Shirin Rezaeimalek's analysis of user sentiments towards urban landscapes in Atlanta using TripAdvisor reviews and VADER, and Ruiqi Yang's work on measuring the visual quality of street spaces through machine learning.
Congratulations to these lab members and their teams!
